MIRROR CLASSES
A mirror class is an academic resource that uses a digital platform shared between professors and students from two or more foreign universities, to participate in the synchronous and asynchronous development of an entire course or a session of a course.
Internationalization at UTP is a tool that allows students and faculty to acquire intercultural and global skills, allowing them to have a positive interaction with other cultures. Therefore, we promote the strategy of mirror classes in our undergraduate and postgraduate programs of all faculties and we count the statistics of student mobility and incoming and outgoing teachers (factor evaluated in our Institutional Development Plan – PDI).
This initiative arose in 2020 due to the need to seek to develop collaborative activities using technology and strengthen ties with partner higher education institutions since we were all facing the same challenges imposed by the global pandemic.

Benefits
- Allow the interaction of students and teachers with national and international peers.
- Promote multi-camp teaching and the internationalization of teaching.
- Activate national and international academic networks.
- From them can derive incoming and outgoing mobilities of teachers and students at an international or multicampus level.

Collaborative Online Learning (COIL)
Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) is a approach that, as part of its class, connects students and teachers from different cultures to learn, discuss and collaborate with each other. The teachers participate in the design of the experience and the students in the execution of the designed activities. The COIL becomes part of the class, allowing all students to have a meaningful intercultural experience within their course of study.

Benefits
- Can be created in any discipline
- Encourages active student study and teamwork
- Includes intercultural interactions and understanding
- It lasts from 5 to 15 weeks (weekly sessions)
- You can use any technological tool that serves the learning objectives
As part of an existing class, the COIL component can be developed throughout the course, or, more commonly, as a module that lasts several weeks during the course. The minimum recommended duration for a COIL module is 5 weeks (one session per week leading to the final presentation of a project in teams comprised of students from both participating universities).
